Delgado to the Mets!!!
By Imtiaz Mussa

First, Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell, now Carlos Delgado.

Florida continues to dump payroll as they tentatively agree to send slugger Carlos Delgado and $7 million to the Mets for Mike Jacobs and pitching prospect Yusmeiro Petit. I for one like the deal an awful lot. I doubt that Jacobs is ever going to get to the level of Delgado. Let's remember, Carlos hit .301, 33 home runs, and 115 rbis while calling a pitchers park home. He is a definite upgrade for this team as they try to win now.

This team can't wait for Yusmeiro Petit to develop. Though I like the kid (Ben much more than I do), they have Pedro Martinez, Tom Glavine, and Cliff Floyd all getting up there in age. Plus, they are making a serious run at Billy Wagner. Combine them with the relatively young talent (Wright, Reyes, Beltran) and you have a team that can seriously contend now.

For those Mets fans who don't like the deal and would much rather make a run at Manny Ramirez, Does the difference in production between Delgado and Ramirez warrant adding Lastings Milledge in the deal? Because that is exactly what it would take to have a chance of getting Manny out of Boston.

I would like to thank Mike Jacobs for the home runs he hit to start off his career and I wish him well in Florida. We will see plenty of him. Omar Minaya steals the headlines from the Yankees again.
